Construction Accountant

Location: Grimsby, Ontario.

General

•    Construction Experience is a MUST.
•   Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, subcontract control and job costing.
•   Ensure that all monthly Government reporting/payments are made on time, i.e. HST and Payroll Deductions.
•   Ensure that the T4, T4A-NR, T5018 yearly reports are prepared and submitted on time

 

Duties and Responsibilities

    Month-End

    • Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliation
    • Maintain depreciation and other reconciliation schedules.
    • Prepare AP accruals for project invoices not received at month-end.
    • Prepare month end reporting.

    Job Costing

    • Reconcile job costs, ensuring that the costs have been captured correctly.
    • Ensure that all approved Change Orders have been recorded and processed.
    • Prepare monthly job costing report for management.

    Accounts Receivable and Payable

    • Ensure that all AP and AR invoices have been processed in a timely manner.
    • Prepare spreadsheets for Credits Card expenses.
    • Ensure that AP payments are made by due dates to avoid all late fees and/or interest charges.
    • Follow up on AR invoices if payment has not been received by due dates.

    Payroll

    • Prepare both weekly (Union) and bi-weekly payrolls ensuring time that both time and coding are correct.

    Subcontracts

    • Ensure all Purchase Orders and/or Contracts are recorded and reconciled monthly.

    Requirements

    • 3-5 years of senior accounting experience in a Construction environment.
    • Knowledge of CCA & CCDC documents and construction accounting requirements.
    • Advance Level Proficiency with Microsoft Office, in particular Excel.
    • Thorough knowledge of accounting and relevant government filings.
    • Ability to multi-task an adapt to change.
    • Ability to analyze and understand large volumes of financial information.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information.
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to quickly learn and to work under little supervision with a high sense of initiative.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
    • Ability to work under time constraints with strong attention to detail.
    • Working knowledge of Jonas is an asset.

    Job Type

    • Full-time, Permanent
    • Pay: $60,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
